What is coaching?

The coaching field has been covered in sources such as the New York Times Magazine, the LA Times, and the Boston Globe (and of course monthly in O Magazine). It is also supported by major universities. Coaches help people to bridge the gap between what currently exists in one's life and where one would like to be. Coaches also help to clarify visions in order to support their clients in achieving their goals.

"Life coaching is a powerful human relationship where trained coaches assist people to design the future rather than get over their past. Through a typically long-term relationship, coaches aid clients in creating visions and goals for all aspects of their lives and creating multiple strategies to support achieving those goals. Coaches recognize the brilliance of each client and their personal power to discover their own solutions when provided with support, accountability and unconditional positive regard."   - Patrick Williams, EdD and Deborah Davis, EdD

"Professional coaches provide an ongoing partnership designed to help clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Ultimately, coaches help people improve their performances and enhance the quality of their lives."   - The International Coach Federation

Over the past 25 years coaching has emerged as a competency dedicated to helping people change, develop, and meet personal and professional goals, while building self-efficacy, resilience, and the capacity for further development. - Harvard Medical School

A Formula for Success

Do you sometimes feel stuck? During the coaching process, Nancie focuses on your happiness, success and well-being. She helps passionate people (generally in their 20s and 30s) become unstuck and less overwhelmed so they can attain personal & professional goals, while creating accountability, positivity and motivation. When people work with her, they learn to change their negative thought patterns and gain clarity around their life visions so they live on purpose.

Feel the need to move forward in your life, strive for the ideal, become unstuck and live your passion once and for all? Nancie can help focus and take consistent, inspired action. Coaching sessions are generally held over the phone (or Skyp by request), so geographic location does not matter. In-person sessions are available around the in-town neighborhoods in Atlanta by request for an additional fee.

Nancie's mission is to help individuals and communities thrive and flourish!  The initial 15-20 minute consultation is complementary and at no obligation. Have questions? Be sure to check out the FAQs.

Psychotherapy Versus Coaching

Although both therapy and coaching have unique benefits, there are differences between the two. Therapy usually tends to focus on the issues or problems at hand; however, coaching is solution-oriented and focuses on moving forward to achieve one's best life possible without focusing on the "whys" or issues from the past. Coaches do not treat clinical disorders. In a coaching relationship, there is an underlying assumption that the client is willing, motivated and able to achieve their goals. Additionally, coaching clients are generally seen as whole, creative and resourceful.

Not sure if you need a therapist instead? With over a decade in the mental health field, Nancie is trained to know the distinction and can provide referral resources if it is deemed that you may benefit from a clinician instead.
